Optimizing page loading

Postby chris Hodgson » Sun Feb 05, 2012 4:33 pm

I noticed the other day that the loading time of main index was a little slow, so I've switched a few bits off (facebook feed and random gallery image), in order to keep page size to a minimum, and load times to less than 2 seconds ;)
Let me know if these changes have improved speed any for ya, as I'd rather drop a few bits from the main page, than have really long loading times ;)

A fraction over 2 seconds Chris.

That's about what I'd expect Bob ;-) I did a page analysis this morning, and we were getting a bit too close to 1mb in size for complete page load. Got that down to about 600kb now, which is a lot more acceptable :-)

Yeah, it was no issue for me at 988kb in size. But when ya on a slower connection, or hitting peak web traffic, it can slow it down quite a bit. I'm currently getting 1.15 to 2.4 second load times in Europe, and 1.8 to 3.2 seconds from Texas USA ;) Which when you compare that to other forums, it's about on the money  It helps that our server is in the UK too, rather than some cheap n nasty thing, stuck in some aged data centre in the USA
