After hearing from my company that I won't be travelling upto the shipyard at GuangZhou on Wednesday, but, rather than that I'll be staying in She Kou for a further 3 weeks I have decided to place my life into the hands of this cer-ray-zee Chinese traffic and I went and bought a cheapo mountain bike:



Thankfully, they do have a lot of cycle lanes and very wide pavements, but often the main road is safer, due to the total grid-lock and the complete lack of spacial awareness inherent in Asia...

As the hotel cannot offer a secure, yet convenient place to park the bike, it resides in my 9th floor hotel room. The bike cost me £55, I couldn't be arsed haggling but did get the lock and light included as I waited unto he'd removed the protective wrapping and attached the light before I said 550 RMB for everything...

Lol I got one last year and ridden it once! It's a complete lie when people say 'it's like riding a bike ya never forget' after 25 years ya bloody do! Lol it amused the kids anyway. So what is that 0-60?

I havent ridden a bike in 30 years. Last time I did my bro was showing off and yelling " Look no hands" as he sped down the road without holding onto the handlebars...he was quite chuffed until he hit the lamp post coming in the opposite direction and marginally less pleased when when I had to get off the bike to stop myself falling off cos I was laughing that much and walked over and pointed to his mouth and said.." yeah...no teeth either"

he would have fit in well in Asia LOL

I got a bike at home last year and ride it whenever I can, but living at the top of the Pennines I cannot go anywhere without having to return home via 'Killer Hill'! Here it is so flat that I've spent 5 hours just dotting about all over the place, plus this is my first time at riding in a city, which is very different.

I remember buying my first sports bike back in the 50s wiv drop handlebars an everyfink. Me and my oppo went for a lovely ride out of Plymouth which was then still unrecovered from the blitz. We cycled for miles. When we got back I answered a call of nature. Oh dear! that was a mistake. 'Broken Bottles' about describes it. So beware of saddles like razor blades.

Having been such a fantastic steed, and being doubtful that I'd get the chance to strip the bike next trip, I decided to ship it home as 'sporting equipment'. Reassembled this morning, the bicycle had suffered some 'mis-alignment' of the chainwheels and the front wheel needs truing. After some 'fettling' the chainwheels are acceptable and the front wheel is good enough until a new spoke key arrives, I do have one somewhere, but as usual, it won't turn up until a new one is in the shed...

Bought my first bike in the 50s too. It was a Phillips Vox Populi. Every Sunday I would cycle from London down to the south coast, along the coast for a while and then back to London. I could get over the South Downs before I saw a car. I would think that journey would be tantamount to suicide now.
