I still prefer a monopod to maxing ISO 8-)

Seriously though, if I reduce image size to 12mp, I do get exactly the same noise performance from a 500D, as a D700 produces. I did a full comparison before I bought mine, as I was all guns blazing for buying a D700 body only.

PS: I always thought a mono-pod was something you jumped in, when your space ship was going to crash land LMAO

Interesting, though A D3s does jump miles ahead from what I have seen to the point where low ISO's look,,, creamy.

A lot of cameras now if you have Lighroom 3 tend to get good images, I noticed a significant improvement in the software's basic noise control when importing when it first came out, notably a very dark church where I was topping out ISO and under exposing just to keep the shutter speed up to 50-60th and it smoothed out what I thought where going to be god awful shots.

Tis true.

So many noise tests just work at 100% crop level - in fact every review I have seen does this.

But the 18mp my 7D retains much more detail at high when downsized to a 12mp image then like for like crops compared.
I am geek.
