Hidi Hi chaps and chappesses
the other night,me and my mate Garrity were trying to get tethered shooting to work after we saw Rankin in London using a Phase one digi back and tethered shooting.Anyhoo,I managed to get Capture one pro working with the Nikon D300 but wasnt overly impressed. Is there anything out there that will give me tethered shooting but allow me to have the flexibility to either capture from the lappy and control the aperture etc AND allow me to shoot from the camera and have fast feedback to the lappy???
Im really interested in this for studio type shoots so I get instantaneous showing of the images on the lappy screen and then I can tell if the shots are working or not.
...and I know someone is going to say buy a Mac Lappy and Aperture but I'm only a poor soon to be student

Hi Chris
I did try this with a 7 inch widescreen tft I had for the van that worked on built in power pack but the screen is vga and low quality.I was looking more along the lines of software to put on the lappy that would allowme to capture and process images on the fly. Ive heard rumours that the next version of photoshop will have tethered capture as a native plugin option for the software. Its a pity we couldnt get such a plugin now as it would make photoshop very tasty to have.I do know its possible in lightroom but TBH Ive never got on with lightroom.I found it processor intensive and very slow and steep learning curve.

cool, just set up your watched folder and make sure it is completly empty when you start.
Then , once you are tethered, and have set up LR so your imported images go into the watched folder, Hey presto!!!!

It depends on exactly what you want to do mate but capture one is by far and above the best capture and raw developer on the market by a long way. I suggest you get used to it now for when you use the phase backs at uni as phase backs will only work with capture one. There is no other capture software that works with them 100%, but that is to be expected as it's made and developed by phase one

By the way, you are going to love the backs. I've made love to mine 8 times today already

Image quality is simply stunning, way beyond any DSLR and thats on a 7 year old 16mp back!
I once was blind, but now I see.... bejeezus, ain't you an ugly bugger!

HI Matt
cheers for that. I think I prefer something more human and female to make love to but I get your drift LOL. I will hopefully be able to use the Phase one kit but it will have to be in a few weeks after I find my feet.However...you can bet your boots that I WILL be using one.Only prob is that cos you have bigged it up so much I might not want to give it back LOL
good to see you posting here mate!!!

Lol. It was taken on the webcam thingemy on ma new macbook, innit.
Kenny, I just cannot say enough about the phase one backs to make people understand how good they are. Bearing in mind I'm using an OLD back, I don't dare think what image quality on the new ones is really like. The amount of detail it captures is about level pegging with 6x7 film, but it is a million times sharper, much more contrasty (in a very very good way) and a billion times more vivid. I have never got photos as sharp and spot on in my life, and that's just firing off a few test frames on the Mrs, so you'll have to wait for me to post images cos she'll flip if I do that to her again
