full frame lens woes

anyone got any idea if the sigma DG lenses will work full frame on a D700??? Ive got two lenses-one on loan which Im thinking of buying which is a sigma 70mm F2.8 prime DG macro and the 70-300 APO DG macro.... I was hoping to keep my D300 as a second body but looks like apart from robbing Jaynes camera bag for all those lenses I lusted after at B72,Im going to have buy just one decent lens for the D700 and sell the D300......

was kinda hoping that those two lenses would work with the D700 but full frame not cropped.....
Please dont hold back.Im here to learn and to learn you have to listen to the mistakes you have made,so tell me!

They will both work fine Kenny

The Nikon 50mm 1.8 is a fine lens for the D700. I use mine quite a lot, with care it's near possible to shoot a whole wedding with one, ask Andy, he's done it, but he is a living legend and a god after all, or so he tells me

ahhhh..so the two siggy's will work full frame then!!! that makes me a happy man then cos my shooting range is around 18-200mm focally. If I get the D700 and maybe the 24-120 VR to start my full frame kit off the 70mm and 80-300 will cover most of the rest of the range I need.Ive got the 18-200 VR but dont want to sell that because as you already know,it holds great sentimental value to me and you know what a soft git I am already.

will be getting the first part of my uni funding on the 20th of September so if I can sell the D300 once I get the D700,that will give me some pennies for the 24-120 VR. I did have a nifty fifty D lens but had to sell the bloody thing to pay the phone bill else no t'tinternet and that would have sent me bonkers...Ive now been given another nifty fifty so am back in business.

That 24-120 VR lens does get awful reviews Kenny :-( , so go careful with that one.

Hmmmm..just looked what Ken Rockwell had to say about it and he want backwards in coming forwards.....dunno what to do about plugging the focal range if I get a D700.I cant use the 18-200 cos it will just be cropped to 5.5 megapixels......

I know I'll be able to borrow lenses from Uni if I book them in advance but theres nowt like having your own lenses is there! damned sad they dont do an 18-200 ED lens thats NOT DX...

50mm sorted...24mm and 70-200 might take a bit longer to get.D700,deffo getting the minute that money hits my bank account. Dont want to sell the D300 but..I know I will have to to get any other lenses.Obviously I'll have to build them up slowly.main thing for me at the mo is getting the D700. Ive been told when I went for the tour round the uni and we were shown the camera room that we could put our name down for any lenses we needed and they have just spent 15 million on a state of the art photography suite camera gear( they had to spend it before the end of the financial year else they got it knocked off this years budget) when I went they were putting the finishing touches to the last of eight custom studios.Think 8xB72 studios so a heck of a lot of gear.

I was chatting to Rich this morning on the phone as he was trotting through leeds to get his butty and his cuppa yorkshire tea and said to him that the tutor has said what cam would you like to use...and I said a medium frame mamyia with 50 megapix phase one back...to which he said,oh we have five of them.if you want to borrow one just put your name down :-o

Think maybe I might be okay to borrow lenses from uni and maybe try them out before splashing out loads of wonga on summat I might not like or rate....

Bessy regs
